Q
- QUIC = Quick UDP Internet Connections
- UDP based transport protocol meant to improve performance over TCP
- defined by RFC 9000
- supported by all current (2023) major browsers, and enabled by default in all except Safari,
- making over 50% of all traffic entering Google (source: Wikipedia)
- The use of HTTP/2 over QUIC instead of TCP is called HTTP/3, per RFC 9114
- Also usable for DNS, per RFC 9250. It is then sometimes called DoQ.
- The acronym is how it was originally proposed by Google, but the IETF does not use it as such, but just as the protocol name
